Allentown-Liberty Bell Club To Sponsor 4-Way Test Speech Contest at Parkland HIgh School

The Allentown-Liberty Bell Club will be sponsoring a speech contest for High School students based on Rotary's 4-Way Test. The contest will be held at Parkland High School and will offer the students the opportunity to create and deliver a 5-7 minute speech, using the precepts of the 4-Way Test to address a subject of their choice.

Club president Madga Abvou-Saif and club member Jerry Friedman visited the high school on March 16 and made a presentation to approximately 50 students about Rotary, the 4-Way Test and the Speech Contest. The students will prepare their speeches for an initial review and feedbacksession from club members on March 30 and begin the competition at the school on April 16.

Allentown-Liberty Bell Club Presents Dictionaries to the Jackson Elementary School

On Thursday, November 12, Club President Maggie Abou-Saif and member Jerry Friedman

visited the Jackson Elementary School in Allentown to present student dictionaries to the four third grade classes at the school. Accompanied by the school's Literacy counselor, Maggie and Jerry explained the purpose of Rotary to each class and that the dictionaries belonged to each student. Each class was then led in a lesson on the use of the dictionary, including how to find words like "rotary". The administration and teachers at the school were very grateful for Rotary's support and the smiles on the children's faces said how much they appreciated having their own book to use in school.

The dictionaries were purchased by a grant from District 7430 and funds from the Allentown-Liberty Bell Club Foundation.

A Jackson School student enjoys his new dictionary.                       Club President Maggie Abou-Saif helps a student find                                                                                                             the word "rotary" in her dictionary.
