Announcing the availability of District Simplified Grants
for the 2008-09 Rotary Year!
_________________________________________________________________________
ANNOUNCEMENT LETTER
June 9, 2008
Dear Fellow Rotarians:
I am pleased to announce the information for District Simplified Grants for the
2008-2009 Rotary year.
District Simplified Grants (DSGs) are the Rotary Foundation at work directly in our local communities and they are a tool for Rotary districts to support short-term, humanitarian projects. The District can request up to 20 percent of District Designated Funds (DDF) from the Rotary Foundation for a grant to support multiple projects locally or internationally. The District then makes the funds available to the Rotary clubs for projects in their communities or around the world.
The District Matching Grants Committee administers the District Simplified Grants. This year the committee will evaluate grant applications and make awards in November, 2008. The total amount of funds available for distribution in our District this year is $22,500.
Bill Weber, District Governor 2008-09, has set a District theme of “Make Dreams Real” coinciding with Dong Kurn Lee, President, Rotary International 2008-09, with an emphasis on Infant Mortality. We are carrying this broad theme into District Simplified Grants and we encourage clubs to develop projects in your communities that fall into the areas of health, hunger and literacy.
There is a link below to a list of DSG awards for each of the last four years. We hope this list of past projects will help to get your creative juices going and to give you some inspiration to come up with some great community projects for the coming year.

For your project to be considered, I must receive all forms by Friday, September 19, 2008. Questions regarding the DSG process can be directed to me by phone or e-mail.
Also, feel free to talk with any of the Matching Grants Committee members. They are listed on the Matching Grants page of the District website. They can answer questions about writing grant applications, project ideas, and how the applications are evaluated.
Please read the evaluation criteria thoroughly. District Simplified Grants are very competitive. Your chances of having your project funded are greatly increased if you keep this in mind as you develop your project and complete the application.
Yours in Rotary,
Brittany L. Tranquillo Terry L. Reed

District 7430 Application Evaluation Criteria
All applications received by September 19, 2008 will be evaluated by the District Matching Grants Committee. Those received after this date will be considered ineligible.
The committee will use a number of criteria in making the selection of winning projects:
- Completeness and clarity of the grant application.
- Is the project eligible under the requirements of the District Simplified Grants Terms and Conditions? See link below.
- How easy is it to understand the project?
- Will the project coincide with the theme established by District Governor (2008-09) Bill Weber - health, hunger and literacy?
- Is the funding of the project clear to the reader?
- Is it clear the amount of funds the applicant is requesting?
- How many Rotarians will be involved in the project? The more, the better!
- How many people will be served by the project? The more, the better!
- How will the community benefit from the project?
- What is the duration of the goodwill and benefits that the project will generate?
Tips
Make it as easy as you possibly can for the committee to understand the project.
Make it clear how much the total project will cost, and how much money you are asking the District to furnish in the form of a District Simplified Grant.
Using club funds or funds from other sources for part of the project makes the application attractive to the committee. In other words, don’t ask the District to fund the entire project. Leverage your funds with DSG funds.
Make sure that the project meets The Rotary Foundation DSG eligibility requirements. Not meeting the criteria is the fastest way to have your application rejected by the committee.

District Simplified Grant Projects - Past 4 Years

What are District Simplified Grants?
District Simplified Grants (DSGs) are a tool for Rotary districts to support short-term, humanitarian projects that benefit the community.
Each year Districts can request up to 20 percent of District Designated Funds (DDF) for a grant to support multiple projects locally or internationally. This District Simplified Grant is then distributed to clubs to support community projects. Each RI District decides how to best use the funds.
Once a year District 7430 makes the funds available to clubs. The District Governor and the Committee set annual goals and guidelines for the projects. These are announced to the clubs each spring. To use DSG funds for a project in your community, you need to complete a grant application and submit it to the Matching Grants Committee for consideration. Clubs develop their projects during the summer and submit applications in September. Applications are then reviewed and projects selected every fall.
