Many Rotary Clubs used Rotary International Literacy Day of Septembe 8th as a kickoff to launch some very exciting literacy projects. These projects included:

Upper Perkiomen Club donated 350 new dictionaries to local 5th graders.

West Reding/Wyomissing Club donated over 450 new books to the Cardy Educational Center at The Children Home of Reading.

Emmaus Club is raising money to send nursing books to Afghanestan for women interested in nursing.

Norristown Club applied for a District Simplified Grant to be used for area daycare centers.

Emmaus Club is partnering with all of area I clubs to do a basic financial training course in the area high schools. The course involves teaching students how to manage bank accounts and credit services.

Pottstown club is planning to partnership with the Family Literacy Program to provide take home packs for approximated 20 families on a regular basis. Included in these packs will be tools to support the educational growth of the child and incourage educational activities in the home.

Allentown West will be sponsoring the Dictionary Project by providing dictionaries to all 3rd graders in the Northwestern, Parkland and Salisbury school districts.

Souderton-Telford Club agreed to participate in the Dictionary Project in their school district.

Bethlehem Morning Star Club donated $500.00 to the dedication of the Cops to Kids reading room at Northhampton Community College Southeside campus on 9/14.
It would be wonderful if we could add a literacy piece to our Adopt-A-Village Projects where there is a fit. I welcome your ideas and input regarding this matter.
I had the privilege of sitting in on the District Simplified Grant Comittee meeting on October 2nd. There were ome great grant proposals submitted. They were all on literacy.

District and Zones Literacy Awards
