Interviews will be in Atlanta GA, October 2007
The ShelterBox Trust-UK, World Headquarters & Operations Centre uses SRT (ShelterBox Response Teams) to meet and distribution all ShelterBoxes deployments. These groups are typically made up of one Rotarian leader and 3 'civilians' with experience or skills useful for disaster relief work and are now known as SRT (ShelterBox Response Team). Shelter Box Comes to District 7430
The ShelterBox project has come directly to our District and the RC of Blue Bell has been designated as D-7430 representative. Clubs that would like to arrange a display or to have a program should contact Dale Rubinkam (shelterbox7430@verizon.net )
ShelterBox was started by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard and in the USA it is sponsored by The Lakewood Ranch Rotary Club in Lakewood Ranch, FL. The Shelter Boxes are distributed through Rotary Clubs and Aid Agencies closest to the disaster areas. Shelter Boxes have been used after the Tsunami in SE Asia, for Afghan refugees, in earthquakes in Turkey and Pakistan and closer to home over 4,000 were used in the Gulf Coast. Half of the funding comes as donations from Rotary Clubs around the world, the rest is from private industry and individuals. The cost of a complete Shelter Box is $1,000 US. The boxes paked as donations are received. All amounts are welcome and are used to purchase items toward a complete box. The 110 lb green box includes a tent which houses a family of up to 10 people, includes a 3 month month supply of water purification tablets along with the basic survival necessities such a cookstove, ten sleeping bags, metal dishes, utentils, rain ponchos etc.

HELP “LEAD THE WAY”

An urgent appeal has been issued by UN officials for 10,000 ShelterBoxes for refugees in Somalia and Sudan. Each ShelterBox can be packed with two 10-person tents. A large container (the best way to ship them to the needy sites) can hold 240 ShelterBoxes and thus can provide shelter for up to 4,800 people. One box can be sponsored for only $1,000.
District 7430’s Disaster Relief Subcommittee urges all clubs to consider sponsoring ShelterBoxes with the goal of at least one large container of ShelterBoxes. The Blue Bell Club in District 7430 is the Official Representative of ShelterBox. If your club is interested in getting involved and purchase ShelterBoxes for AMA, please contact:
By working together, District 7430 will have the power to multiply our resources to benefit a worthwhile project. Please contact us to find how we can leverage district-wide resources.
